Scope and content
Contains correspondence relating to Board appointments and policy for the Heinemann Group. Much of the correspondence is between Frere, Lionel Fraser (Chairman of Thomas Tilling Ltd), Peter Ryder (of Thomas Tilling Ltd), and Rupert Hart-Davis.

Correspondence relates to contracts for Georgette Heyer, German rights in the works of George Bernard Shaw, and mention is made of Graham Greene, Somerset Maugham, Prince Pierre of Monaco, Graham Sutherland, and Mrs Reginald Fellowes. Peter Ryder gives credit to CP for “clinching the Salinger deal”.

Included is a 1962 letter from J.B. Priestley to Lionel Fraser about dropping Mr Frere “if you want him out of the firm, then you must be prepared to lose us too”.

A portrait of Frere is included in a press cutting.
