AH describes this book (letter 27/8/99 in 'Gently Mistaken' file).
“It relates the experiences of a young airman (me) in 1942, but seen through the eyes of a paranoid character with whom I was posted to the airfield involved. If I had known more about his affliction I might have drawn it to the attention of the authorities, and what happened wouldn’t have happened, but I was only nineteen at the time … The airfield was Tempsford, near Sandy and just down the road (A1) from St. Neots (used later in 'Gently Where the Roads Go'). We were dropping agents on the other side – very high security!”
