Correspondence with Joan [Surname unknown]
1949
1974-1976
1974-1976
Personal correspondence with former Wroxham School friend from 193-. The first letter is dated 1949. After a 20 year lapse Joan writes to AH. The letters provide insight into AH’s character and his writing. Joan is married to Charles (a publisher and former director of Eyre and Spottiswoode). Initially her address is Basingstoke but then she moves to The South Tower, Devizes Castle, Wiltshire.
In his letter, 8/2/75 AH describes the character of Fielding and the story which AH thought he might first call 'The Man in the Moon'. One of the characters is based on Joan. Includes an excerpt of the story.
In his letter of 22/3/75 AH describes his homes and he is in the process of selling the home in Bathurst Road Norwich and moving to Brundall.
AH wonders what it would be like to meet up again (letter 31/5/75).
