In 1989 the Press Council upheld a complaint by Anthony Grey against the Observer for an article published six years earlier in 1983. AG complained to the Press Council that the Observer newspaper broke undertakings of confidentiality by publishing an inaccurate report which discredited the book as a hoax before its publication date. The case was delayed until a libel action (Ronald Titcombe v The Observer) arising from the same article was settled out of court.
