Photograph shows a leg fitted with a freedom shoe, fixed into a wooden socket by rubber cords. The socket is carved in a short beam of wood which was screwed to two 6 foot stakes. The stakes are set loosely in the ground and 120 lbs. in steel weights are placed on the platform joining the stakes, in order to simulate the inertia of the rest of the body. This set-up was for the purpose of a trial in which to test the freedom shoe. A side view of the set-up is at [SZ/OEMU/44/1/7]. Relates to trials described in [SZ/OEMU/44/1/4].
