"Two German 250 kg. bombs were exploded at depths of 8 ft. and 22 ft. in clay soil at Richmond Park. The resulting earth displacements and accelerations at distances ranging from 30 to 500 ft. from the bombs were recorded. The craters were smaller than would be expected from empirical data given in A.R.P. Handbook No. 5. The permanent earth movements were practically the same for the two bombs but the maximum horizontal movements were greater for the deeper bomb." Tables and graphs are included.
