The effectiveness of body armour is reviewed in the light of the latest experimental data available. The summary concludes that body armour weighing 10 lb. may reduce battle casualties by about 10% and fatal casualties by 18%. The protection of a large area with thin armour is more effective than the use of thick armour over a small area. It is not worthwhile giving personal protection to people who are efficiently screened by gunshields or bulkheads, etc. Figures 1 and 2, referred to in these notes, are attached at [SZ/OEMU/19/6/6-7].
