Describes the upset which was caused when Pentagon officials handed a $7-billion aircraft building contract to General Dynamics Corporation. Boeing Aircraft was a lower bidder on the contract. The design and history of the Tactical Fighter Experimental (TFX) fighter plane is reviewed, and the aircraft's capabilities and performance. The Defense Secretary's plans for the aircraft, and his policies for its procurement are examined.
