Describes the experimental work carried out at S.R.D.E. Christchurch and at the University of Birmingham. This includes the examination of cues available to dogs when detecting mines buried under disturbed earth; experiments to see whether it is possible to raise the dog's ability to respond to stimuli arising from the mine itself; experiments to assess the practical value of the dog as a detector of booby traps, trip wires, etc.; and experiments to compare the detectability of a variety of solids and liquids and so provide information for the subsequent development of a mechanical detector.
