McWilliams has read SZ's work on scientific manpower and asks for SZ's opinion on Dr Mirsky's view that "the introduction of automated equipment and processes in research certainly did not result in displacement of workers." Rather, the more automation that is introduced the more scientists are required. If SZ agrees with the statement, McWilliams asks whether he would write an article on the issue.
