Jones has been contacted by William Rickett who is concerned that the Japanese are being offered the lease on the third whaling station in South Georgia. The first two are already leased by Japanese companies. Arthur Ryan , who owns one of the stations, is prepared to sell it to the British Antarctic Survey but Rickett fears the Treasury will not act quickly enough. There may be defence and scientific issues involved. SZ may wish to take the matter up with the relevant government departments.
