SZ believes the growth of the universities after 1945 was due to an influx of candidates from the Services but this influx was not "parallelled in the increase of the size of the 6th Form population." SZ's belief that there would be a lack of suitable candidates for university science and engineering courses made him campaign for a larger 6th Form population.
