Kendrew had been in the Middle East for 16 months. He is reluctant to start another job overseas. He would like a replacement, and then tour the Western Desert, Levant, Aden and East Africa while collecting data for the United Kingdom. Kendrew wishes to return to the United Kingdom on one of H.M.'s ships to see problems from the surface angle. He suggests a free-lance type job may be suitable to put his coastal operational research experience to best use.
