Scope and content
Exercise Thunderbolt was held between 11/8/47 and 16/8/47 at the Shool of Land/Air Warfare Old Sarum, Wiltshire to discuss the lessons learned from the offensive bombing campaign of Germany in World War II. In attendance were the Prime Minister, Ministers of Air and Defence, senior air force and other military personnel, and scientific staff. The folder contains joining instructions, maps, directions, train timetables, a programme, SZ's pass, seating plans and a precis of lectures. The principal speakers were: L.F. Pendred, R.E. Vintras, A.G. Adams, Norman Bottomley, Sir Arthur Sanders, Sir James Robb, E.J. Kingston-McLoughry, S.O. Bufton, J.N. Boothman, and Sir Henry Tizard. Subjects for discussion included the planning and course of the offensive, the enemy and allied situation at given times, and communication targets.
