SZ believes that the delays in producing the BBSU overall report, a work of 200,000 words, can be explained and justified. It was only half way through through the task that the sheer size of the job became apparent. The report has taken just about all of SZ's working time; he has not begun any laboratory work and has given only two lectures. SZ does not appreciate Pelly's intimation that support and backing might be withdrawn if the report does not appear in the next couple of weeks. He quotes Anatole France: "Easy writing, hard reading; easy reading, hard writing" and adds "quick writing and publishing, poor thinking."
