Peck refers to the forwarding to Leigh-Mallory on 25/1/44 of SZ's report on "the attacks on railway and transportation targets in Sicily and Italy" [Bombing Survey Unit Report no. 4, SZ/BSU/6/7/2?] and reports that it has been examined by the Air Staff "in order to determine what action is needed thereon", drawing attention to "certain additional recommendations [to those which generally confirm Air Staff views] ... which need attention" with which the Air Staff concurs. The first of these additional recommendations is that "the best method of destroying the enemy's means of rail communication is a strategical...one".
