Scope and content
Headed 'Copy'. Seven pages of the nine page document comprise an appendix 'Particulars of Allied Air Raids on Railway Bridge Targets. 22 weeks: 1 Sept. 1943 - 1 Feb. 1944. Italy and Southern France' covering 138 raids and based on air reconnaissance photographs and "sources of proved reliability." The two page text is a summary analysis of the raids and their effectiveness. By the criteria described in the paper, 34 raids were judged a success and 96 failures. Wigglesworth stresses that conditions in Italy and Southern France vary greatly from those in Northern France, the number of railway routes in the former being much fewer and weather and enemy defences tending to favour the attacking air forces.
