Vox Pop (culture and the mass media)
1999-2000
Contains correspondence and drafts for RD’s article on the lottery for Vox Pop, a collection of essays edited by Ivo Mosley. RD and other contributors examine the ascendancy of a new global mono-culture. RD likens the playing of the lottery to the title of Dr Feelgood’s album Stupidity. He also adopts Stupidity as the title for his submission.
Also included is an article entitled 'Usk: The Stones of the Place', it examines stones along the river Usk and the unknown origin of the stone outside Safeway supermarket in Diss. The article concludes: "Everything about supermarket culture is non-specific. Things come from ‘the farm’ or ‘the sea’, but very rarely from anywhere in particular. The boulder might just as well have landed from Mars on the dazed populace, like the supermarket itself”. Another variation of this article 'Who Rolled the Stone' is also included.
