Exhibition of Art in Industry (1935)
PP/28/4/25
Crittall criticises the [Royal] Academy's Exhibition of Art in Industry as lacking direction and seems to concentrate more on decorative art than industrial art. The "general impression is of a luxury exhibit". There is little which could be considered for use by ordinary people. The architecture of the exhibition also comes in for criticism. The scope of the exhibition is too limited and does not include trades in which British industrial art excels - such as tweeds, gun making, and boat building. Crittall acknowledges the Academy's good intentions but claims the exhibition does not represent either the designers' or manufacturers' outlook. With letter from M.E. Pheysey to Jack Pritchard [PP/28/4/25].
