Harry Mansell

1937-1940

The sub-file contains 74 items from 1937-1938 and 1940. Harry Mansell, a cabinet-maker, was employed by Isokon to assemble and/or finish a variety of Isokon furniture products. He is also known to have designed at least one piece, a sideboard. The contents describe in some detail the work which he carried out. His skills were also called upon for such tasks as assembling exhibition stands (PP/18/8/28/44, 31.1.38).

Included is a bundle of receipts which indicate that at some stage Isokon re-imbursed him the rent of his workshop and the cost of raw materials in addition to payments for work. Items PP/18/8/28/23-24, 19.11.37, are copies of an agreement between Jack Pritchard and Harry Mansell under which £1 of Isokon’s weekly payments to Mansell were "to go into a fund for [Mansell] to get an interest in the business, and which is to be kept in the business".

Harry Mansell’s services often included arranging delivery to the customer, many of whom are indentified here.

The last letter in the sub-file is undated; written by Harry Mansell from Walton-on-Thames, [to where he had retired?] it is of a social character.
