Scope and content
Typed lecture given by Jack Pritchard [21/2/49 to the Cleveland Society of Artists, U.S.A.] "arranged by [Hermann] Field." Jack Pritchard gives a short autobiographical account of his work. He discusses his work at [Harris Lebus] before and after the Second World War, setting up Isokon and collaboration with Walter Gropius, the building of Lawn Road Flats and the disastrous effect of the coming of war on his furniture business. Jack Pritchard mentions briefly his work at the Ministry of Supply during the Second World War and his involvement in Sir Stafford Cripps' [Furniture Working Party], which he goes on to discuss in more detail. Jack Pritchard discusses the furniture industry, types of furniture produced and distribution before the war, problems of the industry during the war and post war problems and solutions. Looking to the future Pritchard discusses the need to develop performance standards and discusses the recommendations of the Furniture Working Party.
