MS. 14 pages. 6 leaves. Leaf numbered 11 and 12 is missing.
Written in Basel and Frankfurt.
PC is returning to Nuremberg via Frankfurt after her second visit to Basel to see Charles [Macnamara]. She describes the train journey with delays at the Czech border and a connection in Strasbourg. She describes Charles’ translation work and the lifestyle in Basel.
She had to translate three Portuguese letters which were part of a German document and although she did this perfectly the Section Chief was surprised that she had not understood a Portuguese word in the address. “And we’re not supposed to translate addresses at all. How I loathe women in authority. How she loathes me?”
She supposes her parents had seen the news about the Nuremberg trials being misconducted.
Mrs Taylor is expecting a baby. She describes gifts shared between herself, Charles and Wolf[gang Hildesheimer].
She thinks Charles is more important [at work] than he shows “he does Malaya” and they want to give him Siam.
She encloses photos of Basel zoo and Nuremberg ice-rink [no longer included].
