Michael Parslew was LC's former English teacher at King Edward School, Birmingham.
Letter, 8/8/2000. TS. 1 leaf typed on recto and verso. Provides directions to a pub in Dorchester-on-Thames where he will meet LC for lunch on 15/9/2000. He remembers former pupil Paul Hoggart who has ‘finished up’ as the television critic of ‘The Times’. Michael thinks back to his own teaching career at Bristol Cathedral School as Head of English and Drama (1973-1975) and at Farnborough Sixth Form College as Head of Drama (1975-1980).

Michael describes his relationship with his two daughters and sympathises with LC and the difficulties his daughter, Ruth, is currently experiencing “provide a comfort blanket or keep a distance but be ready to catch if there is a fall.”
Michael sympathises with LC’s “miserable failure” [of book sales] in the States. He updates LC on developments concerning King Edward School, and mutual contacts.
Michael is disappointed that LC declines to become Dr Grant. But on purely intellectual grounds he doesn’t blame him. “Perhaps you could put on your letter heading ‘D.Litt. (Sheffield – declined)’.”
