Scope and content
In 5/67 JH was invited to participate in a programme of visits or "travelling seminars" designed to "permit specialists to discuss their particular areas of concern with officials of the E.E.C. and member countries, as well as with politicians, journalists, industrialists, academics and other experts" (letter, John Syson to JH, 4/5/67). The tour encompassed visits to Brussels, Bonn, Munich, Stuttgart and Paris.

The Ariel Foundation was founded in 1900 to encourage mutual understanding between Britain and the developing countries. With Britain showing an interest in joining the EEC the Foundation became active in informing "people in public life on the issues involved" (letter, Syson to JH, above).
