Lessing, Doris May, 1919-2013

DL/REVEIWS//HIR/001 [from Mimi E. Hirsch to Doris Lessing, 21/04/1987]
Letter, 2 leaves, typed.
Writes that two years ago, she heard Lessing speak at Boston University. Quotes Lessing from this talk, and that when she said that "women had to stop writing only personal, domestic novels, leaving all the big themes for men to handle", she (Hirsch) had burst into tears. Discusses her novel, Kabul, which will soon be published in the UK. Writes that it is about Afghanistan and the Soviet invasion. Asks Lessing if she will read a copy.
DL/REVIEWS//HIR/002 [from Mimi E. Hirsch to Doris Lessing, 20/05/1987]
Letter, 1 leaf, typed.
Thanks Lessing for agreeing to read and write a short puff piece on Kabul. Lessing handwrites on the letter "This is an exciting and absorbing story set against the background of the intrigue in government circles just before the invasion of the Soviet Union. It would make a good film".
DL/REVIEWS//HIR/003 [from Mimi E. Hirsch to Doris Lessing, 29/06/1987]
Letter, 1 leaf, typed.
Asks Lessing to change a technical error in her puff piece. Writes a paragraph and asks Lessing if she could "say something more like" it.
DL/REVIEWS//HIR/005 [from Doris Lessing to Mimi E. Hirsch, 07/06/1987]
Letter, 1 leaf, typed.
Writes that she will edit the technical error, but wants to leave the rest as it is. Mentions that it "is the first time an author has told me what to say in promoting a book". Writes "it is Afghanistan I am "committed" to, not your book! Which I think could be better".
