DL/A-Z//SCHL/001 [from Charles L. Wentworth to Doris Lessing, 13/09/1982]

Letter, 1 leaf, typed.
Encloses an uncorrected copy of a galley proof for a biography (item 002) as Lessing had previously written that she would not agree to a publication of an biographical essay without reading an early copy. Requests an original manuscript page from Lessing.

DL/A-Z//SCHL/003 [from Doris Lessing to Charles L. Wentworth, 07/10/1982]

Letter, 1 leaf, typed.
Declines Wentworth's request for a manuscript page, believing that it would amount to a "public approval" of the biography. Writes that the essay is "bad, clumsy" and full of errors. Supposes that she cannot ask him to not print it, as "writers have no rights at all in these matters".

DL/A-Z//SCHL/004 [from Andrew Gurr to Doris Lessing, 16/09/1983]

Letter, 1 leaf, handwritten.
Writes with "embarrassment" that he has been asked to write for the Doris Lessing Newsletter, which he considers as "something of a joke". Despite this, he writes that he has accepted and wishes for Lessing to write a small piece for his article.

DL/A-Z//SCHL/005 [from Doris Lessing to Andrew Gurr, 26/09/1983]

Letter, 1 leaf, typed.
Writes that the Doris Lessing Newsletter has been an "embarrassment" and an "annoyance" to her since it started. Asks whether it was Paul Schlueter who asked Gurr to write to Lessing, writing that she will "have nothing to do with him".

DL/A-Z//SCHL/006 [from Doris Lessing to Paul Schlueter, 18/01/1984]

Letter, 1 leaf, typed.
Writes that Eve Bertelson had visited Lessing and told her that Schlueter had "virtually ordered" her to supply him with copies of Lessing's early works, from the Zimbabwean Archives. States that it is not Schlueter's property and does not want her "early crude material" to be in circulation.

DL/A-Z//SCHL/007 [from Paul Schlueter to Doris Lessing, 03/02/1984]

Letter, 2 leaves, typed.
Writes that Lessing's previous letter (item 006) was "not called for", and that he has done nothing illegal nor unethical. Mentions Eve Bertelson and their conversation, and how he did not instruct her to find these copies. Writes that her early writing is "public property".

DL/A-Z//SCHL/008 [from Paul Schlueter to Doris Lessing, 20/10/1985]

Letter, 1 leaf, typed.
Writes that he has been asked to put together a collection on Lessing's writings on Sufism, and asks if Lessing will support it. Mentions their disagreement from the previous year, stating that they "have different ways of looking at the early work".

DL/A-Z//SCHL/009 [from Doris Lessing to Paul Schlueter, 28/10/1985]

Letter, 1 leaf, typed.
Writes that she does not want any of her pieces on Sufism to be published, nor any pieces about Sufism and herself, "absolutely not".

DL/A-Z//SCHL/011 [from Doris Lessing to Paul Schlueter, 02/11/1989]

Letter, 1 leaf, typed.
Discusses symbolism in the names of "Johor" and "Klorathy". Reveals that she uses the Persian Dictionary and Greek myths to find names for her characters.
