DL/A-Z//KHA/001 [from A.S. Khalidi to Doris Lessing, 29/04/1988]

Letter, 2 leaves, typed.
Writes to ask if Lessing will sign the enclosed petition, about the conflicts in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Writes that they hope a rational appeal from "civilised peoples" will have an impact on both sides of the conflict.

DL/A-Z//KHA/002 [from Doris Lessing to A.S. Khalidi, 12/05/1988]

Letter, 1 leaf, typed.
Apologises and writes that she will not be able to sign the appeal, as she believes that the Government concerned will not be moved by the petition. Writes that she agrees with Khalidi, and the conflict is "tragic, and cruel, and unjust". Writes that "there are Governments I think a waste of time appealing to". Mentions Iran and South Africa. Apologises again.
