is an undated letter from Doris Lessing to Jonathan Clowes [most likely sent in 1994]. She recounts being contacted by author Penelope Mortimer who is having difficulty getting her books published. She denies that she is hoping Clowes will offer Mortimer representation but asks whether he can recommend any other agents. See DL/A-Z//MORT
is a memorandum listing the rights to Lessing's works that are vested in trusts. Under the Doris Lessing Trust, it lists Briefing for a Descent into Hell, The Summer Before the Dark, The Story of a Non-Marrying Man, The Temptation of Jack Orkney, The Memoirs of a Survivor, The Grass is Singing, If the Old Could, and Diary of a Good Neighbour. Under the Sufi Trust, it lists the Canopus in Argos Archives series.
is a handwritten note listing the sales of African Laughter, The Real Thing, and Under My Skin.
is a letter from Lessing to Brie Burkeman responding to invitations forwarded and events arranged by Burkeman. Mentions an adaptation of The Good Terrorist that Lessing wants quashed.
is a letter from Lessing to Anne [surname unknown] of Jonathan Clowes, responding to proposed events and arrangements. She mentions issues including a photograph to be used by Vintage Books and a debate with Nadine Gordimer. Lessing asserts that she cannot debate South Africa with Gordimer since she has limited experience of the place and their opinions differ so wildly.
is a letter from Lessing to Anne [surname unknown] and Isobel Pilsworth of Jonathan Clowes, arguing that her books about cats failed because they were improperly packaged in a cute way. Mentions Particularly Cats, Rufus, and The Old Age of El Magnifico.
is a greetings card from Pilsworth to Lessing announcing that she is leaving Jonathan Clowes.
