Angel Books
001 is a letter from Ignat Avsey to Doris Lessing. He mentions hearing from Tony Wood of Angel Books that Lessing has volunteered to write something positive about the publisher [see DL/A-Z//ANG]. He thanks Lessing. He regrets not having followed up on a previously made promise to treat Lessing and her son, and offers now to escort them to a performance of Evgeny Onegin being put on by the English National Opera (ENO) from November 1997 through February 1998. Attached is a letter from the ENO to Avsey setting out the dates of performance. The dates have been circled; the January dates have been underlined; 22/01/1998 has been further circled.
002 is a letter from Avsey to Lessing: "Thanks ever so much for phone call and for resolving the 'handkercief-duel' problem." The letter mentions accompanying copies of Jill Higgs's Fortinbras and a chapter of Avsey's translation of Fyodor Dostoevski's The Insulted and the Injured [or Humiliated and Insulted].
Both letters include unusual humorous letterhead art.
