Scope and content
In 2013, following the author’s death, the University received the remainder of Lessing's personal archive, which she had bequeathed.
This 2013 tranche (120 boxes) includes further personal papers, correspondence, notebooks and diaries. In accordance with her will, Lessing's authorised biographer, Patrick French, enjoyed privileged access to the 2013 deposit during the writing of Lessing’s biography. Some time following its publication, it is anticipated that material will be made available where appropriate. The personal diaries will remain closed until 2043.
Note: Doris Lessing frequently wrote on the back of previously used paper, often correspondence or drafts of her work. No attempt has been made to identify or catalogue this material.
