Scope and content
SZ/SIPRI/1 includes a substantial folder of correspondence formerly among SZ's personal files at the Cabinet Office entitled "International Institute for Peace and Conflict Research, 1966-1971" [old file reference N/10]. This includes a letter to Lord Mountbatten, 2.1.75, referring to SZ's reservations about the nomination of Academician Reutov to the Council by the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Reutov was nominated to replace the late Prof. Millionschikov. SZ had found Reutov an "immensely difficult" member of the UN Panel on Chemical and Biological Warfare.

In 1987 SZ joined Manfred Lachs and others in pressing for a meeting of the Scientific Council, which had not convened for some time. There is evidence that SZ and others who attended the meeting that was eventually held in September of the following year were unhappy "about what is happening at SIPRI" [draft letter written by Robert Neild, 12.10.88, in File SZ/SIPRI/1].
