Scope and content
Contains nine letters dealing with arrangements for a luncheon meeting between Dr Rodzinski and SZ and SZ’s comments on the discussions that they had during the course of two such meetings. SZ had asked permission from Sir Harold Caccia to meet Rodzinski. Caccia had no objections and indicated that he wished to be kept informed of anything of note. In a letter to SZ, dated 31.1.63, he warned that Rodzinski was "a convinced Communist and any flexibility he shows is purely tactical." At a luncheon in April 1963 Rodzinski talked to SZ about his concern at the prospect of a West Germany armed with nuclear weapons and expressed his opinion that the West was giving in to German aspirations too easily. SZ reported all this in a letter to Caccia, 23.4.65. At a later luncheon on 23.10.67 Rodzinski mentioned the concern on the part of Poland that the proposed NATO multi-lateral force would materialise and that the result would be an escalation of the Cold War. SZ reported this to Caccia in a letter written on the same day.
