Scope and content
Contains papers, memoranda and notes on the reorganisation of the Ministry of Aviation and its integration into a unified Ministry of Defence. The emphasis in this file still falls heavily on the Ministry of Defence and its reorganisation. SZ outlines the role of the Chief Scientific Adviser's Division. After 1/4/64 steps are taken to further rationalise and facilitate cooperation between the sections of the new Defence Council. The Headquarters Reorganisation Committee is the body which examines the changes in Ministerial organisation and responsibility. The Ministry of Aviation's responsibility for research and development is discussed, and its possible integration with the Ministry of Technology. The correspondence is mainly between SZ, Ministers of Defence, Secretaries of State, and Parliamentry Secretaries.
