Scope and content
Contains minutes, papers, and correspondence covering all stages of the Skybolt project from the initial agreement, through technical and financial difficulties, testing, to the ultimate cancellation. Much of the correspondence concerns the conflicting attitudes towards Skybolt among policy makers in the United Kingdom and United States. The cost and recurring technical difficulties are referred to frequently as major obstacles as far as the United States was concerned. Within British circles there was anxiety that the government was not embarrassed by cancellation or postponement so soon after obtaining Parliament's agreement. Provision of Polaris and a Scottish base for the United States Navy are also referred to.
