[Red ring-binder], 2008
The dramatization of this book did not take place. SW explains in a letter to Andrea Clemen, 24/6/08

“the latest strictures outlined for the possible development of the material in Diary of a Man in Despair are no longer compatible with my dramatising of this story …

You are one of the guardians of the works of a man you say you knew very little about, and yet you have decided that it is best that the rest of the world also remains ignorant of his life and time and philosophy. This completely baffles me. The survival of any humanist voice from 1940 is a miracle that should be shouted form the housetops. Clearly ‘historical responsibility’ means different things to its various guardians.

I would hate to think that my children who will also one day inherit the relics of my own little literary estate would take the chance to “withhold approval for development”, based on their own nebulous tender feelings.”
