Scope and content
Crampton won this award for ‘The Final Journey’ (‘Reise im August’) by Gudrun Pausewang. The book is about the twenty-four hours spent in one of the infamous cattle trucks by an 11 year old German-Jewish girl on her way to Auschwitz.
The runner up Marsh Award in the same year (1999) also went to Crampton for ‘No Roof in Bosnia’ by Els de Groen (Dutch). In 1998 this book was selected as the British Honour Book for Translation by British IBBY.
